First Responder/Ayuda

SASO developed First Responder trainings for community members and anyone in the advocacy field to learn how to be a First Responder for survivors of sexual violence. It is known that the way a survivor is responded to by the people around them can have a huge impact on the healing process for the survivor.  This in-depth seven hour training teaches about the dynamics of sexual violence as a tool of multiple oppressions, how to be a bystander in oppressive situations, sex offender dynamics, and the physiology of trauma as well as the specifics of how to be a First Responder.  The program includes an informative video entitled “Rape Is” http://www.cambridgedocumentaryfilms.org/rapeis.html practice being a bystander and role plays in small groups to practice being a First Responder.  For more information, go to the Volunteer page for basic information.

Our focus on serving immigrants, an underserved population, led us to develop, Ayuda, the First Responder program for Spanish-Speakers.  This program has many of the same elements as the First Responder training, as well as culturally appropriate and considered information in order to best serve Spanish-Speakers and immigrants.

For upcoming trainings, see Training/Events.  For more information call SASO’s office at 970-259-3074.
